Community and Partnerships

A community school

The campaign to open a secondary school in Saxmundham was started by a handful of parents and community members, all of whom live and work in the town. They founded Fromus Valley Educational Trust, a not-for-profit charitable business specifically for the purpose of applying to open a free school in Saxmundham.

By the time the formal proposal was submitted to the Department of Education in May 2011, the campaign had gained the support of more than 500 local families along with the local MP, town and district councillors and many other community members.

In early 2011, after extensive discussions, Fromus Valley Educational Trust joined with the Seckford Foundation, in order to add specific and valuable educational expertise to their proposal.  The Seckford Foundation will run Saxmundham Free School.

Partnerships

The Free School will work very closely with the primary schools in the Saxmundham pyramid, and beyond.  In particular we will encourage collaborative projects in curriculum projects.

The Free School will be one of which the community will be proud, and local businesses and voluntary groups will be invited to give their expertise in a variety of areas.  Each term the Free School will host a business forum, and there will be other opportunities for business and voluntary groups to support the School, and the pupils to support businesses and charities in return.

The Seckford Foundation has a proud 400 years of experience in running an extremely successful school, and its educational and leadership expertise will ensure that the Free School will offer education of the very highest quality.
